Heat advisory: Big Bear Valley under warming alert through Monday evening

NWS San Diego warns of multi-day heat event with limited overnight relief — watch for signs of heat illness.

By Big Bear News1 min read

A Heat Advisory issued by the National Weather Service in San Diego takes effect Wednesday, July 23 at 10 AM and runs through Monday, July 27 at 8 PM PDT, covering the San Bernardino County Mountains — including Big Bear Valley.

Forecasters expect high temperatures to reach the mid-80s to 90s at elevations below 6,000 feet, with overnight lows only dropping into the low to mid-70s. That means residents and visitors will get little relief after dark — a key concern during multi-day heat events. The NWS rates the risk as "widespread moderate HeatRisk," with heat illness the primary danger.

Big Bear sits above 6,700 feet, so valley-floor temperatures are expected to stay somewhat cooler than the advisory's lower-elevation benchmarks — but the combination of daytime heat and warm nights can still pose risks, especially for older adults, young children, and those without air conditioning.

San Bernardino County's official guidance on cooling centers and heat safety could not be confirmed at press time. For the latest conditions and safety tips, check the NWS San Diego forecast at weather.gov or call San Bernardino County's non-emergency line.
