Bear Valley Meals on Wheels Seeks Volunteer Drivers, Especially for Winter Months

The all-volunteer organization delivers hot meals to homebound mountain residents five days a week — and needs your help to keep rolling through the snow season.

By Big Bear News1 min read

Bear Valley Meals on Wheels, Inc. is calling on Big Bear Valley residents to sign up as volunteer delivery drivers, with a particular need for help during the winter months when snowy roads and cold temperatures make it hardest for homebound neighbors to fend for themselves.

The nonprofit delivers in-home meals Monday through Friday, including holidays, to roughly 30–40 recipients who are unable to venture out on their own. Every single position in the organization — from drivers to administration — is filled by a volunteer, meaning that donations go entirely toward putting food on the table for those who need it most.

For anyone thinking the commitment sounds daunting, the time ask is modest: drivers typically spend less than two hours per week on the road, and volunteers set their own schedules based on what works for them. Whether you can help once a week or several times a month, the organization can work with you.

To sign up or learn more, contact Candy Hallstead, President of Bear Valley Meals on Wheels, Inc., by phone at 909-806-0360.
