Power shutoff watch: Big Bear could lose electricity starting Friday noon
SCE has flagged two BVES transmission lines for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff beginning June 26.

Bear Valley Electric Service (BVES) is warning customers that Southern California Edison (SCE) has placed two BVES transmission lines on its Monitored Circuit List for a potential Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS), meaning parts of Big Bear Valley could lose power as early as noon this Friday, June 26, 2026.
A PSPS is a precautionary measure utilities use during extreme fire-weather conditions — typically high winds, low humidity, and dry vegetation — to reduce the risk of electrical equipment sparking a wildfire. SCE's specific reasoning for flagging the BVES lines could not be confirmed at press time.
Residents who depend on powered medical equipment, such as oxygen concentrators or home dialysis machines, should make arrangements now and contact BVES directly if they are enrolled in a medical baseline or life-support program. All households should consider charging devices, stocking water, and preparing a go-bag in case conditions escalate.
Watch BVES and SCE communications channels for updates on whether the watch is upgraded to a confirmed shutoff, and for estimated restoration timelines if power is cut.
