Big Bear Valley's beloved bald eagle Jackie will be remembered at a minor league baseball diamond this summer, as the Ontario Tower Buzzers host "Fly High, Jackie Night" on August 23, 2026, with proceeds benefiting the Friends of Big Bear Valley (FOBBV).
The Tower Buzzers — the Los Angeles Dodgers' Single-A minor league affiliate — organized the tribute in partnership with the FOBBV. The team announced that 50 percent of ticket proceeds from the event will be donated directly to the organization.
The night is meant to celebrate Jackie's remarkable life and legacy. The eagle and her partner, Shadow, raised eaglets together in their nest above Big Bear Lake and starred in a worldwide FOBBV livestream that drew hundreds of thousands of views, shining a light on bald eagle conservation in Southern California. Jackie is believed to have lived to approximately 14 years of age.
The community was shaken when Jackie died on August 9, 2026, after being attacked by two subadult eagles. She received three weeks of intensive care at the Ojai Raptor Center, but did not survive her injuries.
The FOBBV had not responded to a request for comment at the time of publication regarding what the fundraising proceeds will specifically support.
Residents who want to honor Jackie while supporting local conservation can purchase tickets for "Fly High, Jackie Night" through the Tower Buzzers' event page. The game is scheduled for August 23 at the Ontario Tower Buzzers' home venue.
