Bear Mountain Ski Resort will trade its winter snowpack for the roar of motocross engines this summer, hosting the Big Bear MX Grand Prix from August 19–23, 2026. The event marks only the second time the competition has been held at the Big Bear Lake resort.
Organizers are expecting more than 900 riders to descend on the mountain for the five-day event, which is sponsored by gear brand O'Neal. The race course runs approximately 3 miles along the lower section of Bear Mountain, making use of existing ski runs and fire roads, and will include a berm feature. Riders of all ages and skill levels are welcome to compete on the course.
Race director Aaron Cooke says the setting is what sets the event apart. "The event attracts riders from across the country who come to test themselves against the mountain and compete in an atmosphere unlike any traditional motocross or off-road race venue," Cooke said.
For Big Bear Valley residents, the event is likely to bring a significant boost in visitor traffic to the resort area for much of that week. Comments from Bear Mountain resort management and details on spectator access or parking had not been confirmed at the time of publication. Residents near the resort who have questions about noise or access impacts can reach out to Visit Big Bear for more information as the event approaches.
