A minor earthquake rattled the Big Bear Lake area Tuesday morning, June 30, 2026, at 9:15 a.m., according to the U.S. Geological Survey. The magnitude 2.2 tremor was centered approximately 4 miles south-southeast of Big Bear Lake at a depth of 2 miles.

At that magnitude, the quake falls just below the threshold at which most people tend to feel shaking — earthquakes below 2.5 are seldom noticed, while those between 2.5 and 5.4 are often felt but rarely cause significant damage. Whether any residents in the valley noticed this one could not be confirmed at publication time.

It was not an isolated event in the broader region. A magnitude 2.8 earthquake struck near Indio on June 26, 2026, marking a second minor quake in the area within the past week.

If you felt Tuesday's tremor, the USGS is collecting community reports through its Felt Report form at earthquake.usgs.gov (opens in a new tab).
